The Washington Fire Department, established in approximately 1905, provides fire protection and emergency medical services at the advanced life support level to the City of Washington, Central Fire Protection District, and Pleasantview Fire Protection District. The department serves an estimated population 13,950 residents and covers 47 square miles. The Washington Fire Department's current membership consists of volunteers and paid emergency medical staff. All firefighters are required to be Firefighter II certified through the office of the State Fire Marshal. All EMS personnel are required to be Emergency Medical Technicians at the basic level through the Illinois Department of Public Health. On December 15, 1998, the Washington Fire Department began full-time Paramedic level service. The department currently employs 6 full-time Paramedics and 12 part-time Paramedics and EMTs. Advanced life support services are provided 24 hours a day 7 days a week. The Washington Fire Department is dedicated to providing the citizens of the Washington area with the highest quality services that answers the needs of the community.
